Senatskaya square

Until the 18th century, it was densely built up with private estates and monastery courtyards.

At the moment a mini-park is laid down on the territory of the square. It appeared in the 20th century for security purposes. In the center of the square there is a fountain and a small stele-monument in honor of those who died during the Civil War. Installed in the Soviet times.

Kremlin Senate (Senate Building) - working residence of the President of Russia. The place where the president works and where his office is located.

Construction was carried out from 1776 to 1787 by an order of Empress Catherine the Great.

The palace is made in the neoclassical style, characteristic of the late 18th century. It was assumed that the building would be the residence of the highest authority of the Russian Empire - the Senate. From here the palace got its name. In Soviet times the palace was a place of V.Lenin’s working cabinet. Later, the Council of Ministers of the USSR was housed in the building. Now the Senate Palace is “the working residence of the President of the Russian Federation”.

The building is triangular in the plan, with a courtyard, which is divided across by the buildings into three parts.
